Mary McCague - Violin
Mary McCague is known by her fellow AffinitÃans as the 'girly' one in the group. She grew up in the sea-side village of Blackrock in Co. Louth, (the smallest county in Ireland!) Both parents were musicians so it didn’t take long for Mary to find herself sitting in front of a piano with a violin under her chin! She started violin lessons at the age of four with the inimitable Rev. Brendan McNally and went for a piano audition to renowned international pianist John O’Conor at the age of five whom she subsequently studied with. She got a taste for showbiz at the age of eight with every child’s dream, a live performance on the Late Late Toy Show. Since then, Mary has performed regularly on the Late Late Show (and on stage) with big name acts such as Michael Bublé, Westlife, Kanye West, Il Divo, Katherine Jenkins, Rod Stewart and Leona Lewis, amongst others. She holds a particular soft spot for Michael Bublé…

Mary has won many awards and accolades for her playing and has freelanced with all the professional orchestras in Ireland, in addition to performing at music festivals throughout Ireland and Europe. She holds a first class honours degree in Music and Irish from Trinity College Dublin, where she was also awarded scholarship of the college. In addition, she holds a Masters in Music Performance from the Royal Irish Academy of Music, also with first class honours.
Mary loves composition and orchestration, and enjoys nothing more than turning a rock anthem on its head and making it an Affinità classic.
